The Ontario legislature’s official VQA wines were chosen at the 40th Annual Wine Tasting event hosted by the Grape Growers of Ontario and the speaker of the legislature, Oct. 31 at Queen’s Park. Strewn Winery 2017 Rogue’s Lot Cabernet and Georgian Hills Vineyards 2016 Seyval Blanc were the 2019 winners, and an icewine - Chateau des Charmes 2017 Vidal Icewine - was also selected this year.

MPPs gathered to select the official wines to be served at legislative functions throughout 2019. Participants tasted and marked their preferences on a voting ballot to determine which wines would be selected from six Ontario VQA wineries, including two of Ontario’s premium icewines.

The Grape Growers of Ontario represents more than 500 actively producing grape growers of 17,000 acres in the province’s three viticulture areas: Niagara Peninsula, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County, and the emerging Norfolk County.
