The National Apple Competition is no more at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, but apples had a strong presence during the opening weekend. The Apple Marketers Association of Ontario displayed on November 1, and the Ontario Apple Growers (OAG) continued on November 2 and 3.
“On Saturday and Sunday, we handed out Honeycrisp, Ambrosia, Gala and Empire varieties,” reports Kelly Ciceran, general manager, OAG.
The two remaining apple competition categories of heaviest apple and most unusual-shaped apple did not garner any entries.
The Royal continues until November 10, with several commodity associations participating.
November 5 – Holland Marsh Growers
November 6 – Ontario Potato Board
November 7 – Fresh From the Farm School Fundraising
