With the purchase of an 85-acre parcel of land in Kelowna, the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative (BCTFC) moves a step closer to fulfilling its “One Roof” plan. The Cooperative made the announcement of the purchase in Kelowna on May 7, 2019.
“Today is an exciting day for all of us at the Cooperative,” stated CEO Todd McMyn. “This purchase signals our commitment to the industry, our growers, our staff and the (Okanagan) Valley and will give us the ability to compete on a global scale moving forward.”
The new facility will be located on Old Vernon Road in Kelowna. When complete, the One Roof plan will consolidate all of the Cooperative’s northern facilities into one location, which will house state-of-the-art apple, cherry, pear and soft fruit packing lines as well as office space and the cider operations and a “destination” cidery.
There are no immediate details as to when construction will start, but progress updates will be posted at bctreefruits.com. In conjunction with the land purchase, BCTFC has an agreement in place to sell its property in Penticton, B.C. Both transactions will be completed by May 31, 2019.
