Canadian Grocer Magazine is reporting that Farm Boy has topped the charts in a survey of consumers, for the second year running. The ratings are based on 16 criteria including price, product quality and choice, service, store layout and experience. Each retailer is given a score out of 100.
Léger’s survey found that Farm Boy earned 77.7, which was followed by Your Independent Grocer at 76. Longo’s was in the mix with a score of 70 followed by Sobeys at 68.7. Making the top five list was Whole Foods, scoring 68.3.
It’s noteworthy that Empire Company, based in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, owns the Farm Boy and Sobeys chains – both in the top five. Empire completed the purchase of Farm Boy December 10, 2018 – just a year ago. Management promised not to tamper with the Farm Boy brand or customer service ethic.
The survey results come at an opportune juncture. There are 29 Farm Boy stores in Ontario with a new store to open in Burlington on December 5 and another store in St. Catharines early in 2020.
