On May 3, McCain Foods USA announced it would invest $200M US in the expansion of the Burley, Idaho French fry plant with plans to have it up and running by summer 2018.
The expansion will require an additional 15,000 acres of potatoes from eastern Idaho to the Oregon border.
“In 2016, we reviewed all of our North America sites and narrowed the potential for expansion to a handful that could best help us meet the growing demand for McCain products,” says Jeff DeLapp, regional president, North America. “In the end, we chose Burley due to its proximity to quality potatoes, availability of skilled workforce and strong community and state level support.”
This investment follows previous McCain expansion announcements in its specialty potato capacity in Plover, Wisconsin and most recently its $65 million investment in its facility in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada.
