Podcast episode 7

The Grower Calling – the official podcast channel for The Grower is pleased to release its seventh podcast episode with guest Chris Mullet Koop, an egg and grape farmer from Jordan, Ontario.

Chris is a 5th generation farmer, a husband and father of three raising the 6th generation on his family’s mixed farm. He talks about what it is like to be featured in a Tim Hortons commercial and the importance of speaking up and speaking positively about agriculture. As someone who would rather shy away from the camera, Chris offers some advice for farmers who might be hesitant about telling their food and farm story.

From there Chris talks about the changes that his family has experienced with the vineyard. From growing grapes for Welshes to growing grapes for the fresh market, juice and wine. He talks about the significant investments that his family has had to make due to changing market condtions. He also offers some perspective on pests that he has to combat in his vineyard.

Having recently coming back from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s convention in Toronto, Chris talks about a workshop that he attended about mental health. He bravely shares his story in dealing with mental health and wants other farmers to know that they are not alone.
