As part of its annual general meeting, the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) honoured Shalin Khosla. The provincial government’s greenhouse vegetable specialist is retiring after many years in the post.
Khosla’s focus has been on greenhouse vegetable crop production which includes: growing systems, water and fertilizer management, energy, root zone and micro-climate management. He’s been known for his collaboration on greenhouse vegetable production, energy research and demonstration projects. He will be missed as co-editor of Publication 836, Growing Greenhouse Vegetables.
In other news, Dan Branson, guest speaker, offered valuable insight to current topics such as sustainability, food waste and plastics reduction.
Members of the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers tried the newly developed OGVG VR 360 Experience. This six-minute virtual reality (VR) project gives participants a full greenhouse tour from farm to table. The next steps are almost complete on a fully interactive version where users will be able to tour and educate themselves on the benefits of Ontario's high-tech greenhouses at their own pace. Additionally an online desktop version will be developed giving participants the ability to view Ontario's greenhouses from the comfort of their home.
