Tender fruit growers salute Foodland Ontario

L-R: Hon. Ernie Hardeman and Phil Tregunno, chair, Ontario Tender Fruit Growers.

Surveys show that 93 per cent of Ontario shoppers recognize the Foodland Ontario symbol, a successful brand developed over 42 years to promote locally-grown food. One of the beneficiaries is the Ontario tender fruit industry, with almost $61 million in farmgate value of fresh market fruits in 2018. Processing fruits added another six million to the tally.

“Foodland Ontario has been instrumental in getting local food to be a trend,” said Phil Tregunno, chair of the Ontario Tender Fruit Growers’ board at the March 28, 2019 annual general meeting.

During the awards ceremony, Hon. Hardeman said, “Foodland Ontario works hard to promote the good things grown in this province, and I am honoured to accept the Ontario Tender Fruit Growers’ Annual Award of Merit on its behalf.

Look at Foodland Ontario as an example of benefits of working together. It’s the symbol of quality.”
