The Canadian Horticultural Council has just published the latest video in the international farm workers Heartbeat awareness campaign: “For my son.”
Jamaican Kevin Thomas relays his motivation for coming to work in Canada. His five-year-old son has sickle cell anemia which requires costly monthly medication and travel to far-away towns to receive the treatment he needs.
Through the International Farm Workers program, Kevin has worked for the past 12 years in Ontario. Over the years, he has been investing in land in Jamaica to plant coffee beans and raise livestock. It’s a plan that will continue to provide for his family and community once he is done working in the program.
