CPMA applauds 2019 federal budget

The 2019 federal budget was applauded by the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) which welcomed significant investments in rural broadband, funding for A Food Policy for Canada, increased focus on food loss and waste, improved regulatory processes, and tax changes to the Small Business Deduction.

 “Budget 2019 provides important investments in key areas impacting the fresh produce industry,” said CPMA president Ron Lemaire. “We are thrilled to see that the Government has implemented many of the recommendations put forward by CPMA through the pre-budget consultation process and our ongoing advocacy efforts. These investments and changes to the Small Business Deduction for growers will help bolster the fresh produce industry and grow the economy.”

CPMA leaders are looking forward to learning more about the specific Budget 2019 announcements made on March 19 and the release of the new regulatory roadmap for agri-food and aquaculture. They will continue engaging and collaborating with the government on these files on behalf of the produce industry.

    Hard to believe that people are applauding the Liberal government for the great job they are doing. They have done nothing but attack farmers since they got into power. Now in an election year they put out a budget that is vote bait and CPMA is happy about it? I think that CPMA had better get back to representing farmers, and stop representing food retailers and what they think farmers want!
