This biological mycoinsecticide label has been expanded via the Minor Use Program for management of whiteflies, aphids and thrips on additional greenhouse-grown crops in Canada. These include eggplant, lettuce, mint, onion and Brassica transplants, Asian water spinach and strawberries.

Closer insecticide has broader label for potatoes

PMRA has granted approval for Closer insecticide in root and tuber vegetables to control leafhoppers and tarnished plant bug in addition to the existing label for aphid control.

Asparagus grower Mike Chromczak is the chair of the newly formed Environment and Climate Change Section at the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association. He farms at Brownsville, Ontario.

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association (OFVGA) has formed a new Environment and Climate Change Section to respond to a host of issues. Mike Chromczak has agreed to be chair, entering new territory for both himself and the association.

New chair for Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission

Pork and chicken producer Amy Cronin has been appointed chair of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission for a two-year term. 

NatureFresh Farms plans to build a new 32-acre greenhouse facility in the summer of 2018 in Leamington, Ontario. John Ketler, general manager, says tomato production will start in 2019.

The $4.4 billion Ontario grape and wine industry honoured three leaders in Niagara Falls on March 23 at the 30th anniversary of the Cuvée Grand Tasting. Albrecht Seeger won the Cuvée Vineyard of Excellence Award.
