In order to meet the federal government’s budget, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has announced that 665 jobs will be cut along with the closure of seven research and development stations across Canada.

Those R & D Centres include:  Guelph, Ontario; Québec City, Québec; Lacombe, Alberta. Four satellite farms will be closed including: Nappan, Nova Scotia; Scott, Saskatchewan; Indian Head, Saskatchewan; and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Other locations will remain open but will be impacted by staff cuts.  Wind-down operations could take up to 12 months.

The government has no plans to close Agassiz, British Columbia; Summerland, British Columbia; Lethbridge, Alberta; Harrow, Ontario; Kentville, Nova Scotia; Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec. This means that 17 centres remain open.
