Government’s announcement on TFWs not expected to affect growers

.

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association (OFVGA) advises its members that the August 26 announcement by the federal government will not impact the number of temporary foreign workers (TFWs) who can be hired in the future, neither at the individual farm level nor at the sector level.

In its news release, the federal government emphasized that “Exceptions will be granted for seasonal and non-seasonal jobs in food security sectors (primary agriculture, food processing and fish processing),…”.  OFVGA has received confirmation in separate conversations with officials that the announced policy measures will not impact the numbers of TFWs that fruit and vegetable operations can hire.
