The Grape Growers of Ontario will continue to be led by Matthias Oppenlaender, re-elected for a third term. Kevin Watson has been elected vice-chair, replacing Bill Schenck who held the role for six years.

“We thank Bill Schenck for his 14 years of service on the Grower Committee, 13 of which were served on the board of directors, where he held the position as vice-chair for the past six years,” said Oppenlaender. “His dedication to the industry was unwavering particularly with his involvement in OGWRI, Canadian Grapevine Certfication Network and irrigation. We wish him all the best!”

The 2022-2023 board of directors is rounded out as follows: Steve Pohorly and Erwin Wiens (Niagara-on-the-Lake); Joe Schenck (St. Catharines); Doug Funk Jr and Jim Morrison (Lincoln); Brock Puddicombe (Grimsby); Robert Peck (southwestern Ontario); Murray Wilson (Prince Edward County & all other areas).

The Grape Growers of Ontario represent 500-plus growers. The 2021 harvest had a farmgate value of $111 million.
