Veltyma, a fungicide that provides broad-spectrum control against key foliar diseases in potatoes, is now registered to control late blight in potato after the Pesticides Regulatory Directorate (PRD) recently approved the label expansion.

In addition, Veltyma is now registered for up to three applications per year on potatoes. This label expansion also includes the addition of oats, rye and barley for key leaf diseases.

“Canadian potato growers need solutions that meet challenges head-on all season long to help protect against foliar diseases,” said Chris Vander Kant, corn, soybeans and horticultural crop manager for BASF Agricultural Solutions Canada. “If not properly managed, late blight is a potentially devastating disease. With Veltyma fungicide, farmers get protection against foliar diseases including early blight, black dot, brown spot and now late blight, in addition to Plant Health Benefits1.”

Veltyma comes in a liquid formulation and has a wide application window, providing growers application flexibility along with effective disease control. Veltyma has multiple modes of action to deliver preventative and curative activity: Pyraclostrobin (Group 11) and Mefentrifluconazole (Group 3). Pyraclostrobin provides Plant Health Benefits1 for increased growth efficiency, better management of minor stress and greater yield potential2. Mefentrifluconazole, also known as Revysol, is the innovative fungicidal active ingredient from BASF with a flexible molecular structure that adapts to a wide variety of pathogens, providing broader, stronger and longer performance compared to other demethylation inhibitors (DMI).

“The versatility of Veltyma, especially its ability to control resistant biotypes through Revysol, has made this fungicide a key component of the complete BASF potato portfolio,” said Vander Kant. “We’re proud to offer solutions for Canadian potato growers to help protect their crop from weeds, diseases and insects at every stage, from seed to harvest.”

Veltyma is also registered for use on multiple crops including corn, wheat and soybeans. For more information on Veltyma, and the BASF portfolio of potato solutions, visit AgSolutions.ca.
