Growing Home is a community-giving contest that BASF initiated in 2023 and launched again for the second year in 2024. It starts with a Nomination Phase, where grower and retail customers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario can nominate an important organization in their community for a chance to win one of four $25,000 prizes (one winner per province).

Once nominations close, the BASF judging panel reviews all the nominations and narrows them down to a Top 3 per province. From there, it moves into the Voting Phase, which is open to all Canadians (must be legal age of majority).

The Highgate District Agricultural Society, located in southwestern Ontario, was nominated and selected as one of the top three organizations in the province. The other two are:  Three Oaks Respite Cabin and Norfolk Little People’s Daycare.

The Highgate District Agricultural Society has been central to community life for more than 170 years. Fair organizers promote life skills and agricultural awareness, connect rural and urban Canadians, and offer a venue for farmers, youth, and others to engage in competition and trade exhibitions. As a cornerstone to community, the society manages and maintains the local community park that includes venue space, sporting and recreation facilities and children’s play areas. As one of the last remaining fairs in the municipality, the society also supports the local 4-H association.

“As a 100% volunteer-based organization, winning this year’s BASF Growing Home contest will help ensure long-term financial stability that will ensure our services and events remain accessible to our community for generations to come,” says Cory Gosnell, secretary-treasurer.
