The Berry Growers of Ontario (BGO) has announced that Bernie Solymar has joined the organization in the role of general manager effective December 1, 2021. Most recently, he was with the Asparagus Farmers of Ontario for more than eight years.
Based in Simcoe, Ontario, Solymar will be working with the membership of more than 200 growers across the province. Supporting him will be Victoria Eastman, research and promotion coordinator, based in Kemptville, Ontario.
“Bernie Solymar brings a proven track record of administration and managing public/private partnerships at both federal and provincial levels,” says Tom Heeman, chair, BGO. “He will assist us in our priorities of adopting new technology and getting this technology into growers’ hands. There is a very rapid emergence of technology on both the labour and environmental sustainability fronts.”
“Victoria Eastman offers a youthful perspective from her base in Kemptville, Ontario,” adds Heeman. “Her on-the-ground experience working with growers in eastern Ontario is an asset as is her proximity to the Ottawa region’s research system.”
