Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada hires new executive director

.
.

Stephen Heckbert will join the Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) FVGC as its new executive director, effective Sept. 8. He brings more than 25 years of experience as a bilingual enterprise and communications leader, having most recently served as CEO of the Canadian Pork Council.

With a background spanning national industry leadership, federal politics and senior public affairs counsel, Heckbert is well regarded within the Ottawa agriculture and government community. He has a strong track record in developing and implementing effective strategies and communicating with relentless energy with a focus on results. His practical experience in growing and leading strong teams and navigating complex policy environments will support FVGC’s work to ensure federal decisions prioritize grower competitiveness and a reliable domestic food supply.

FVGC is more than 100 years old and, in recent months, has been navigating a period of transition and revival. Heckbert’s appointment will focus on continuing to build on this momentum to ensure that FVGC is positioned for success and has a strong voice in Ottawa.  He will support FVGC’s role as a national convenor, bringing together members, working groups, government officials, and sector partners to advance practical, solutions-focused outcomes.

This transition reflects the commitment and support of FVGC staff and the Board. Sincere thanks go to interim executive director Carla Ventin for her strong and collaborative leadership throughout this period, and to Board president Marcus Janzen for his vision and thoughtful direction. FVGC recognizes staff members Amy Hutchinson and Erik Nielsen for their important contributions and continued support over the past several months.

Heckbert will officially assume his duties on September 8.
