The Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) board of directors was in Ottawa the first week of June for a series of meetings focused on advancing key priorities for the fruit and vegetable sector. With increasing recognition by the federal government of the importance of food security and sector resilience, FVGC used the opportunity to reinforce the need for targeted policy solutions to support Canadian growers.

On June 3, the Board met with Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald and Deputy Minister Lawrence Hanson for a focused discussion on sector challenges, including sustainability, labour shortages, and the importance of ensuring a reliable supply of fresh produce for Canadians.

Additional meetings took place with Parliamentarians, including MP David Epp, MP Scot Davidson, MP Yves Perron, MP Kody Blois, Senator Rob Black, and Senator Todd Lewis. Discussions focused on critical issues such as business risk management, access to labour, crop protection, trade competitiveness, and greenhouse investment.

FVGC looks forward to continuing to engage with the Government of Canada and all Members of Parliament to ensure the needs of fruit and vegetable growers are reflected in federal policy decisions.
