Another vertical farm, the largest yet in Canada at 96,000 square feet, has been opened by GoodLeaf Farms in an industrial area in southeastern Calgary, Alberta.
The $52 million facility was supported by $2.7 million through the Alberta Investment Growth Fund. Alberta premier Danielle Smith toured the facility on opening day.
GoodLeaf Farms CEO Barry Murchie is expecting to double the facility capacity in the not-too-distant future. He points to the importance of food sovereignty and how vertical farms can provide regional supplies of greens as concerns rise over water availability in the U.S.
