The Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) has honoured The Grower with an unprecedented five awards in its 2023 competition. The awards range from podcasting to technical reporting to photography.
Karen Davidson won second place in the Current Affairs Reporting category for the January 2022 cover story: Facing a long ban on PEI potato exports to the U.S. She also won second place in the Technical Reporting category for her February 2022 cover story: Ground truthing robotic weeders starts now. A third-place award was won in the Electronic Media-Audio category for her podcast recording with Jenny Lemieux and Kirk Kemp: Vivid Machines comes alive for apple growers.
Glenn Lowson was honoured with second place in the People Photography category for his portrait of Amanda Hehr, Sunterra Greenhouses, Acme, Alberta. He won third place in the Production Photography category for catching a delivery man on the run augering fertilizer at Gwillimdale Farms, Bradford, Ontario.
CFWF represents almost 350 English-speaking agricultural journalists, broadcasters and communicators from across Canada through six regional associations in Atlantic Canada, Eastern Canada, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
