Grape Growers of Ontario report that the recent extreme rainfall and flooding across communities in the Niagara region have affected many growers, residents, businesses, and communities. As recovery efforts continue, Grape Growers of Ontario recognize the uncertainty and challenges facing growers whose vineyards have been impacted by these events.

 
At this stage, it is simply too early to determine exactly what effects these flooding events may have on vine health, and any impacts may not become apparent for days or even weeks.

 
Saturated soils are also making it difficult for growers to access vineyards with sprayers and other equipment at a time when warm temperatures, elevated humidity, and prolonged moisture are increasing disease pressure.

 
Growers participating in Production Insurance are encouraged to contact their Agricorp adjuster to discuss their individual situation, including any damage or potential impacts resulting from these flooding events.

 
Agricorp adjusters can explain reporting requirements and timelines, answer questions about available coverage, and provide guidance on whether a damage report or any additional action may be appropriate based on the grower's individual circumstances. These programs are intended to help producers manage the impacts of unforeseen events, including extreme weather.

 
Grape Growers of Ontario will continue to monitor the situation and provide growers with timely updates, resources, and technical information as it becomes available.
