Halloween plays a significant role in boosting the agritourism and agri-business industries in Ontario by drawing visitors to local farms and attractions. As families seek out festive experiences, this creates opportunities for farmers to showcase their products and engage their local community.
This seasonal influx not only enhances the visibility of Ontario-grown produce, such as pumpkins and apples, but also encourages the purchase of locally made goods, fostering a deeper connection between communities and the agricultural sector. Through these activities, Halloween serves as a vibrant catalyst for economic growth and community engagement in Ontario’s rural areas.
“Our members connect families to farms,” said Farm Fresh Ontario CEO Kevin Vallier. The association represents the agritourism sector across the province. “Families return year-after-year and I think that says a lot about the wonderful agricultural experience that our members provide.”
“A key goal in our Grow Ontario Strategy is a 30 per cent increase in the consumption of Ontario-produced food by 2032 as well as growing our nearly $51 billion agri-food industry,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Agriculture, Food & Agribusiness. “The agritourism industry is a key player in making this a reality, which is why our government is proud to supports organizations such as Farm Fresh Ontario with more than $500,000 since 2021. We know their work makes a big impact.”
The fall season is just one of the many opportunities throughout the year to raise excitement about Ontario agriculture and everything it brings to the table. This year and every year, make a point to join in on the festivities with your family – or, better yet, explore the possibilities at your own farm!
