Syngenta Canada Inc. is introducing Incipio foliar insecticide for potatoes and specialty crops featuring PLINAZOLIN technology, a novel active ingredient developed by Syngenta with a unique Group 30 mode of action.
"Incipio brings something exciting to the market for potatoes and specialty crop growers as the only Group 30 with such a broad reach across crops and pests,” says Cheryl Trueman, Syngenta insecticide and fungicide technical lead for potato and specialty crops. “The novel active ingredient, PLINAZOLIN technology, is designed to deliver high efficacy and residual control of target pests in a fast-acting, dependable formulation.”
Incipio is registered on potatoes, apples, brassica head and stem vegetables, brassica leafy greens, cucurbit vegetables, leafy vegetables (except head lettuce), fruiting vegetables, tuberous and corm vegetables, as well as pome and stone fruits, controlling a wide range of damaging pests.
Its durable formulation remains on the leaf surface where it is needed, providing long-lasting residual activity, UV stability, and two-hour rainfastness.
Trueman adds, “For growers concerned about insecticide resistance in their horticulture crops, Incipio has no known cross-resistance to other modes of action making it an excellent rotation partner with Syngenta insecticides such as Minecto Pro in potatoes and Agri-Mek SC in apples.”
For potato growers:
Incipio eliminates common potato pests in their most damaging life stages, giving growers visible results against Colorado potato beetle in as little as two days. Incipio also controls potato leafhoppers and suppresses European corn borer.
Incipio complements resistance management strategies by providing potato growers with a novel Group 30 mode of action for managing challenging pests including populations with resistance to other modes of action. It can be used in rotation with insecticides from different groups that control the same pests including Actara 240SC and Minecto Pro insecticides. Incipio has no rotational restrictions with key crops such as wheat, corn, and most vegetables.
For specialty crop growers:
Across specialty crops such as apples, cucurbits and brassicas, Incipio rapidly stops target pests from feeding within hours and provides control for up to 14 days.
In brassicas, it controls key pests including flea beetle, diamondback moth, imported cabbageworm and cabbage looper. In apples, Incipio introduces a new mode of action for mite control, delivering fast-acting control across multiple life stages, including eggs.
With broad tank-mix compatibility, this Group 30 insecticide has no known cross-resistance with other modes of action and no known resistance. Incipio will be a valuable addition to insect-resistance-management programs for Ontario horticulture.
Incipio will be available for the 2027 growing season in an SC formulation and sold in cases containing 4 x 0.81 L. Application rate varies with the crop and target pest.
- - In potatoes, one case treats 80 acres to control Colorado potato beetle or 53 acres when targeting European corn borer.
- - In apples, one case treats 53 acres.
- - In brassica crops, one case treats 80 acres.
