The First Canadian Honeycrisp Apple Contest has created some fun and interest this fall. And now has a sponsor: Agro-K.
“We all know that too large a Honeycrisp apple is not what we want,” says Rick de Jong, Agro-K Canadian business development manager. “It’s a sign that something has gone sideways. But having a contest for the largest Honeycrisp apple is an occasion for a laugh in the apple industry that’s worked so hard during these challenging times.”
While the email contest is by no means a replacement for the National Apple Competition held traditionally at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, it’s a way to acknowledge the hard work of orchardists across the country.
Provincial winners will be announced as soon as possible, pending the end of apple harvest. Agro-K provides foliar nutrition and soil conditioning products. For more information: www.agro-k.com
