Leaders of American farm organizations met with the president-elect Biden USDA transition team in early December 2020 to underline that food security sustains national security. In the United States, there are 23 million jobs associated with agriculture which represents 15 per cent of total employment.
The top three priorities included COVID-19 testing and vaccinations for processing/supply chain workers, “sustained, well-funded, effective and predictable” language in the upcoming farm bill; and ratifying trade agreements with new and existing markets.
The last farm bill was signed into law on December 20, 2018. It is renewed every five years.
