The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) has announced toll rates and, with Bridging North America (BNA), launched ‘Breakaway’, the toll discount program, for the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan.
Breakaway makes travel faster and easier at the Gordie Howe International Bridge, with customers enjoying exclusive toll rate discounts and hassle-free payment. Motorists in vehicles equipped with Breakaway tags will drive to any open toll lane. In less than five seconds, charges will be attributed to their account, the boom will lift, and they will continue on their journey.
Drivers of passenger vehicles will pay a standard toll of $8 CAD/$5.75 USD per crossing, while Breakaway members receive a 25 per cent discount with rates of $6 CAD/$4.35 USD. Commercial trucks, oversized vehicles and larger passenger vehicles will pay a standard toll of $12 CAD/$8.75 USD per axle, with a Breakaway rate of $9.60 CAD/$6.90 USD per axle.
This initial launch of Breakaway is exclusively for business accounts providing companies an opportunity to sign up and prepare their fleets for a seamless experience when the bridge opens. Registration is available at GordieHoweInternationalBridge.com. Breakaway accounts for personal users will launch in the coming weeks.
Opening in spring 2026, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will transform how people and goods move across North America, providing a direct, highway-to-highway connection between Ontario’s Highway 401 and Michigan’s Interstate-75. Designed with six traffic lanes, 16 toll lanes, and 60 Canada and U.S. inspection lanes, the bridge will provide efficient, safe and secure processing for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
