Re-elected premier François Legault announced his new Coalition avenir Québec cabinet on October 20, 2022, retaining André Lamontagne (Johnson) as minister of agriculture, fisheries and food. The MNA has been in the role since October 18, 2018.

Danielle Smith, the newly elected leader of the United Conservative Party in Alberta, named her cabinet on October 21, 2022 retaining Nate Horner (Drumheller-Stettler) as her ag minister. The MLA has been in the role since November 5, 2021.

One big change is in the new premier’s emphasis of priorities. Previously, the ministry was known as agriculture, forestry and rural economic development. It’s been renamed:  agriculture and irrigation.

Nate Horner confirmed the designation on his Facebook saying, “I look forward to building on our government's historic investment of nearly $1 billion in irrigation infrastructure and supporting an ag sector that's driving economic growth and job creation.”

Alberta’s new premier Danielle Smith, who does not have a seat in the legislature, will run in a by-election in Brooks-Medicine Hat on November. 8. Medicine Hat is home to several greenhouse vegetable operations, totalling about 150 acres under glass.
