World Soil Day, held annually on December 5, is a chance to recognize and understand the value of healthy soil.  This year's theme is Soil and Water: A source of life.

From farms and ranches to laboratories and meeting rooms, Canadian senators are discovering what makes soils healthy, which forces are threatening soils and how to preserve and enhance this vital natural resource.

The Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry ’s study on soil health is uncovering how soil contributes to our health, the environment, and the economy. The study has taken senators to three provinces, and they have heard from experts from across Canada on the state of soil health in every region of the country.
