Prince Edward Island’s Conservative minority government swore in a new cabinet on May 9, confirming dairy farmer Bloyce Thompson as the new agriculture and land minister. He toppled the previous premier Wade MacLauchlan in the riding of Stanhope-Marshfield, not far from the city of Charlottetown.

“I’ll get a lot done before breakfast,” Thompson quipped, sharing his delight at winning the agriculture minister’s role.

He has 2,089 followers on his Twitter account with the description: “family, farming, community, marketing and co-breeder of the million-dollar cow Missy.” He is a former board member of the Dairy Farmers of Prince Edward Island.

He’s already sparked national coverage with Maclean’s Magazine publishing an article titled: How dairy farmer Bloyce Thompson became the real star of PEI’s election.” Here’s the link: https://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/bloyce-thompson-prince-edward-island/

Generational change is underway as he joins another young agriculture minister, 31-year-old Devin Dreeshen from Alberta. They are two new faces who will be attending the federal-provincial-territorial agriculture ministers’ meeting held in mid-July in Quebec City.
