Funding announced for automation and artificial intelligence

The Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) has unveiled the projects to be funded through its second Open Competition. Ecoation will be receiving $627,898 for its innovative approach to a fully autonomous greenhouse mobility platform.  SoilOptix will be receiving $67,553 for advancing processes to predict soil organic carbon.

 

“CAAIN is pleased to be adding these leading-edge projects to our funding roster,” said interim _ CEO, Dr. Cornelia Kreplin.“We received 38 diverse proposals from across Canada in response to an October 1, 2021, nationwide call for submissions. The five recipients are further evidence that the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship remains the backbone of our country’s agri-food sector. These are high-quality initiatives that made it through a rigorous three-step evaluation process. They cover a broad swath of technological advancements, including autonomous farm vehicles, greenhouse automation, artificial intelligence, blockchain traceability, spectrometry, predictive modelling.”

 

CAAIN drives advancement in Canada’s agri-food sector by funding promising projects that apply technological solutions to address identified needs, with particular focus on automation & robotics, data-driven decision-making, and the validation & demonstration of emerging agtech.
