Walmart Canada CEO says company is looking into the revised grocery code of conduct

In an interview published June 3 in the Globe and Mail, Gonzalo Gebara, CEO, Walmart Canada, says the company is four years into a five-year, $3.5 billion rejuvenation. About 30 stores will be renovated this year.

As one of the top five grocers in Canada, Walmart holds about 7.5 to 8 per cent market share.

In news relevant to the produce sector, Gebara said the company is looking into the revised version of the code but made no further commitment.

Less than 10 per cent of Walmart Canada business is digital. During the pandemic, it was predicted an e-commerce revolution would upend the grocery business. But Gebara says the demand for physical stores is increasing. Three new store locations were approved recently.
