The Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, is currently in China to advance Canada’s agricultural trade interests and discuss shared agricultural priorities with the Chinese government and industry leaders.

In Beijing, the Minister will meet with China’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Zhu and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China Minister Sun Meijun, in addition to Chinese importers of Canadian agri-food goods, to reaffirm collaboration on shared priorities, support export growth and lay the groundwork for resolving market access challenges.

In Shanghai, Minister MacDonald will attend and participate in events at the China International Import Expo (CIIE). This year, Canada is the designated Guest Country of Honour at CIIE 2026, taking place November 5 to 10, offering elevated visibility for Canadian products and stakeholders. Minister MacDonald will join Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu and provincial ministers, to meet with Canadian exhibitors and Chinese business leaders and investors to advance the bilateral trade relationship.

Canada and China have an important trade relationship. Canada is a reliable supplier of high-quality and safe agricultural products to China with Canadian exports of agriculture, agri-food, and fish/seafood exports valued at $6.7 billion, representing 6.4 per cent of Canada’s total exports of the sector in 2025.
