The 2020 U.S. Agricultural Export Yearbook shines a light on primary trading partners, highlighting Canada as the top destination for produce. Last year, American-grown fruits and vegetable exports were valued at $3.5 billion to Canada. The number is unchanged from 2019.
Put another way, Canada receives 49 per cent of U.S. produce exports. Mexico comes in a distant second as a destination for 10 per cent of U.S. produce exports. No other market had more than seven per cent share of exports.
The yearbook reports that U.S. apple exports experienced the greatest drop, down $105 million from 2019 and accounting for more than half of the overall decline, with the largest losses in Taiwan, India and Canada.
U.S. fruit and vegetable exports to China declined for the third year in a row. However, South Korea saw a significant gain of $61 million. Apples, pears, peaches, citrus, table grapes, and cherries continue to make up nearly half of total U.S. fresh fruit and vegetable exports.
