Bayer AG announced July 16 that it will bring 500 jobs to its Creve Coeur campus and invest $164 million in improvements in St. Louis, Missouri. The move follows the completion of Bayer’s $63 billion acquisition of Monsanto.

The decision resolves the question of whether Bayer would consolidate at its North American crop sciences headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina or leverage Monsanto’s assets in St. Louis. The addition of 500 jobs in St. Louis will be a combination of transfers from North Carolina and new hires to the already existing 4,400 jobs in the region. 

The average salary for the new jobs will be $110,000 according to Missouri state officials.

The St. Louis job announcement comes after the company, whose international headquarters are based in Germany, announced in November 2018 it would cut 12,000 jobs worldwide, about 10 per cent of its workforce.
