Canadian Grocermagazine has published the top 10 international grocery chains, attributing the findings to a firm Edge by Ascential. Walmart tops the list with $503 billion in sales and Costco in second place with $151 billion in sales. Neither of these are in the top three in Canada which are Loblaw, Sobeys and Metro. 

What’s interesting about the report is the distinction made between in-store net sales and on-line net sales. For Walmart, on-line net sales are $49 billion and that number is expected to more than double to $110 billion by 2024.

5. Schwartz Gruppe
6. Aldi
7. Carrefour
8. Aeon
9. Tesco
10. Target
