Keith Robbins, a seasoned manager with communications and marketing experience, will join the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers (OPVG) as general manager on September 17. He has spent most of his career in the hog and poultry sectors, most recently as executive director of the Poultry Industry Council. Prior to that, he spent 19 years with Ontario Pork.
The OPVG is a marketing board regulated under the provincial Farm Products Marketing Act. About 400 growers harvest processing tomatoes, onions, sweet corn, carrots, cucumbers, green, wax and lima beans, green peas, squash and pumpkins for Ontario food processors and a U.S.-based greenshipper. In 2018, these family-owned and operated businesses generated almost $100 million in farmgate value.
Robbins replaces Cathy Lennon, who resigned earlier this year to become general manager of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
