As fall swings into gear, watch for changes at the federal level in the Conservative shadow cabinet. Alberta MP John Barlow is moving from agriculture to the ministry of employment, workforce development and labour.

John Vanthof, an NDP MPP for Timiskaming-Cochrane since 2011, has been named NDP deputy leader for the 2018 fall session in the Ontario legislature. He’s also a shadow critic for the ministry of agriculture, food and rural affairs. 

Ernie Hardeman is Ontario’s new minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs under Ontario’s new premier, Doug Ford. This is Hardeman’s second foray into ministering agricultural affairs, which he previously managed under Mike Harris.

Lawrence MacAulay, federal agriculture minister, hosted Sonny Perdue, U.S. agriculture secretary on June 15, maintaining the dialogue on cross-border trade. The high-profile tour included a visit to Ray and Alvin Keenan, potato growers at Souris.
