Verdant Technologies has announced that Green Harvest has approved a commercial HarvestHold Fresh program for its cucumber operations following a series of successful head-to-head evaluations that demonstrated meaningful improvements in shelf life, colour retention, firmness, and overall marketability.

The relationship began following discussions at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) Convention and Trade Show in Toronto in April 2026. Green Harvest has long maintained a focus on product quality and continuous improvement, regularly evaluating technologies that can help enhance freshness, consistency, and supply chain performance. Already utilizing a shelf-life management solution within its cucumber program, the company was interested in determining whether HarvestHold Fresh could deliver additional benefits for its customers, retail partners, and consumers.

"Because we were already using a shelf-life solution in our cucumber program, it was important for us to conduct a thorough evaluation. The results showed that HarvestHold Fresh could further enhance quality retention and marketability, making it a compelling addition to our operation."

In the final evaluation, HarvestHold Fresh delivered up to five additional days of shelf life, approximately one additional week of premium-quality appearance, up to 21 per cent greater colour retention, up to 58 per cent lower colour loss, and approximately 30 per cent higher marketability at Day 13. Treated cucumbers also demonstrated strong maintenance of firmness and overall visual appeal throughout the evaluation period.

Following completion of the evaluations, Green Harvest approved a commercial cucumber program and accepted Verdant's commercial proposal. The companies have initiated supplier onboarding and implementation activities and will jointly establish and monitor key performance indicators during an initial six months of commercialization.
