Biobest’s upgraded Side Effects app safeguards beneficials

Biobest has upgraded its Side Effects app.  It’s a powerful decision-support tool designed to help users make informed choices regarding pesticide use, while protecting beneficial organisms critical to IPM programmes. The app update offers more data points, additional user languages, and facilitates easy sharing of compatibility reports.

“Our updated app provides growers, crop advisors, and IPM specialists with mobile, instant access to Biobest’s updated and expanded database of chemical pesticide side effects on beneficial organisms,” says Martin Zuijderwijk, business development & global technical services director.

“By simply selecting an active ingredient, or commercial product name, users can immediately see its potential impact on our full range of beneficials. This allows for fast, informed decision-making in the crop or during IPM planning, which is especially important in high pest-pressure situations where conventional chemistry may still be required.

“The key benefit lies in helping users avoid unintended harm, or even elimination, of beneficial populations carefully established in the crop. With this tool, IPM strategies can be fine-tuned to balance pest control with long-term biological sustainability - ensuring crop protection without compromising future performance.”

Providing accurate and up-to-date information, this upgraded Biobest app features new side effect combinations. Free of charge to Android and iOS users, it is now available in multiple languages, to support international teams, and enables easy sharing of compatibility reports.

“Users can export search results in PDF or CSV formats, enabling advisors and growers to collaborate, using shared compatibility report data, across platforms including email and WhatsApp,” says Martin. “This feature enhances transparency and consistency across teams, aligning field actions with strategic goals.”

This new release of the Side Effects app reinforces Biobest’s commitment to support sustainable agriculture, by providing industry professionals with tools to optimise crop yield and quality while minimising/eliminating chemical residues.
