Beth Patillo continues to chair the committee that reviews proposed updates to the CanadaGAP Food Safety manuals. Two new members have joined: Lily Indajati and Nirmal Dhaliwal.
Kate Helmore, currently based in Vancouver, has been tapped for the newly created beat of agriculture and food policy reporter. One of her first stories was titled: “Canadian fresh-produce growers get more financial protection under amended bankruptcy law.”
Québec strawberry and raspberry growers Simon Plante and Alison Blouin won the Eastern Canadian honours at the 2024 Outstanding Young Farmers’ national event.
Kevin McKenna was posthumously recognized for his unwavering 40-year commitment to the PEI potato industry. Joanne Driscoll was also presented with an award for her long-term involvement with agriculture, notably her contributions to the PEI potato producers.
The Ontario Produce Marketing Association honoured the produce industry’s hardworking individuals at its 33rd Annual Gala and Awards Ceremony. George Gilvesy, retired chair of Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, won the Cory Clack-Streef Produce Person of the Year Award.
Jenique Kennedy joins the Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association as a policy advisor specializing in areas of property, environment and conservation. Her appointment is effective December 2, 2024.
