The University of Guelph is hosting a large exhibit at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair from November 1-10. A robust program of speakers will be on various stages.
- A grant of $325,000 will spur the research of Julianna Wilson, Michigan State University entomologist, into a yeast-based biopesticide that targets the invasive spotted wing drosophila.
- The “Glory” cherry, registered in the U.S., is not as advertised. Through genome sequencing, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada proved it is identical to the Staccato cherry developed in Summerland, British Columbia.
- Sandy Miller and Cassandra Driediger have joined the seven-person board as new directors.
- Cavendish Farms has frozen potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, North Dakota and Alberta as well as an appetizer plant in Ontario.
