Health Canada will be cancelling some uses and restricting others of three neonicotinoid pesticides. Changes are ahead for crops ranging from tree fruits to berries to cucurbit vegetables. All uses for orchard trees, for example, have been cancelled.

The B.C. Tree Fruits Cooperative has appointed two new senior executives –Todd McMyn as chief executive officer (CEO) and Ross Dwhytie as chief financial officer (CFO). The Kelowna-based cooperative represents more than 400 local grower families.

Ken Forth is the recipient of Grape Growers of Ontario 2019 Award of Merit. The broccoli grower is president of the Foreign Agricultural Resource Management Service (FARMS), and has dedicated his career to providing labour support for farmers and international agricultural workers.

The extended label on this foliar fungicide will assist growers in suppressing powdery mildew on field and greenhouse mint as well as greenhouse-grown lettuce.

For the upcoming season, growers have access to another tool for suppression of spotted wing drosophila in a number of berry crops and stone fruits.

The U.S. is reassigning up to 750 border guards from ports of entry along the country’s southern border, to assist in processing migrant crossings from Mexico. Shipments of fresh produce into the U.S. can expect a slowdown for an unspecified period.

EarthFresh Farms of Burlington, Ont. announced its expansion into the southeastern U.S. with an advanced technological packing plant and distribution centre in Atlanta, Georgia. The new 140,000 sq. ft. facilities will operate as EarthFresh Atlanta.
